Here is the Crozer update for October 2026: none of the four former Crozer Health hospitals has reopened, but every one of the buildings now has a new owner, and plans for Crozer-Chester, Taylor and Springfield are moving, slowly. The two dates that matter most right now are a promised primary care practice on the Crozer-Chester campus, expected around early 2027, and March 2, 2027, when the county says old Crozer medical records will be destroyed. If you need care today, start with our list of every open hospital and ER in Delaware County.

Every Crozer update, month by month
Newest first. We add a dated line here whenever something on the ground changes.
October to December 2026
- Oct. 29, 2026: At an online town hall on Oct. 21, Chariot Allaire said Penn Medicine is helping plan services at Crozer-Chester but no operator has agreed to run the hospital. A Neumann University primary care clinic on the campus could open as early as March 2027 if its Independence Blue Cross Foundation grant is approved, WHYY reported. We laid out what a Crozer-Chester reopening would include and when.
- Oct. 25, 2026: Chariot Allaire now says it expects to know in the first quarter of 2027 whether a health system will anchor the Crozer-Chester campus and whether state funding will follow. CEO Yoel Polack had hoped to name a partner by October, the Inquirer reported. Neumann University still plans a primary care clinic there if a grant comes through. We also published a guide to Prospect’s bankruptcy and what it meant for Crozer.
- Oct. 19, 2026: Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park is still closed and no operator has signed on. Main Line Health has a $1 million state grant for a future project there but has not committed to an ER. We explain who bought Taylor and what they plan.
- Oct. 17, 2026: Still no operator named for Crozer-Chester. The owners said in April they hoped to name one by November, and the primary care practice they promised is due around January 2027. We put the whole sale in one place: who bought Crozer-Chester and the other Crozer sites. We also published an explainer on why Crozer closed.
July to September 2026
- Sept. 15, 2026: Main Line Health received a $1 million state grant for a possible project at Taylor Hospital. A state representative’s office first said the money would restore Taylor’s emergency room, then corrected that announcement. Main Line says it is still evaluating options, Taylor among them, to add emergency capacity. Still, Main Line does not own the building.
- July 17, 2026: The county’s state delegation announced a $4 million state capital grant for Main Line Health to build an outpatient emergency center in Delaware County, with CT, MRI, ultrasound, an outpatient lab and primary care. However, nobody has named a site, size or opening date yet, and it would not have inpatient beds.
January to June 2026
- June 2026: ChristianaCare opened its neighborhood hospital at 700 Turner Industrial Way in Aston, with a 24/7 emergency department and 10 beds. As a result, it became the first new ER in the county since the closures.
- June 2026: An unnamed Philadelphia-area health system entered a due-diligence period to become the lead provider at Crozer-Chester, according to DELCO Today, citing the Philadelphia Business Journal. ChristianaCare said it was not in active talks with the owner.
- April 14, 2026: About 200 people came to the owners’ first town hall at Widener University. In other words, the headline promise was a primary care practice within about nine months, backed by the Independence Blue Cross Foundation.
- March 10, 2026: The sale of Springfield Hospital to KQT Aikens Partners 2 closed for $1 million, making it the last of the four former Crozer hospitals to change hands.
- Feb. 18, 2026: Delaware County Council voted unanimously to end the emergency declaration it issued on April 21, 2025.
- Jan. 21, 2026: Chariot Equities and Allaire Health Services completed their $10 million purchase of Crozer-Chester, reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Crozer-Chester Medical Center update: what the new owners plan
The 64-acre Upland campus belongs to Chariot Equities, a for-profit real estate firm founded by Yoel Polack, and its partner Allaire Health Services, a New Jersey nursing home operator. At the April town hall, the owners said they want to bring back a hospital at about a tenth of its old size. Their health care adviser put the number at roughly 80 to 100 beds, against the 424 the hospital had before it closed, PhillyVoice reported.
The order of events, as the owners describe it, is primary care first, then a renovated main hospital over two to three years, then behavioral health and academic uses on the west and north parts of the campus. Polack called full restoration “aspirational,” WHYY reported. Whether an emergency department returns depends on which nonprofit health system agrees to run the place, and the owners have not named one publicly as of this Crozer hospital update.
Nine months from the April meeting points to early 2027 for the primary care practice. We have not found an announced address, opening date or operator for it yet. For the history of the building itself, see our Crozer-Chester Medical Center guide.
Crozer update on Taylor Hospital
Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park closed on April 26, 2025. A local group led by Todd Strine, majority owner of the ambulance company Keystone Quality Transport, bought it in September 2025 for $1 million. The owners have renamed the property the Ridley Park Medical Campus and are marketing it nationally to health systems and physician groups.
In March, Strine told FOX 29 that Taylor was close to move-in ready and that both of his hospitals could be operating by the end of 2026. However, with about ten weeks left in the year, nobody has announced an operator. Main Line Health is the name to watch: it has the new state money for emergency care and has said Taylor is one of the options. In January it estimated that making Taylor’s ER functional alone would cost $15 million to $20 million. More background is in our Taylor Hospital page.
Springfield Hospital and Delaware County Memorial
Springfield Hospital stopped working as an acute-care hospital in February 2022. An October 2025 auction winner never closed its $3 million deal, so the backup bidder, the same Strine-led group that owns Taylor, bought it for $1 million on March 10, 2026, the Inquirer reported. A deed restriction requires 24/7 emergency services on the property, and the owners have floated a specialty hospital, for example cancer care, with an ER attached. Note that the county’s own status page, last revised in June, still describes this sale as pending.
Delaware County Memorial Hospital, on the other hand, is a different story. The Upper Darby School District bought it in August 2025 and plans to tear it down for a school project, so medical services will not return there. We cover the site in detail in what happened to Delaware County Memorial Hospital.
Crozer hospital closing update: how we got here
Prospect Medical Holdings, the California company that bought Crozer in 2016, pushed the system into bankruptcy in January 2025. Taylor closed on April 26, 2025, and Crozer-Chester followed on April 30, according to Delaware County’s Prospect update page. More than 2,600 jobs were lost, including about 1,200 nurses. Our Crozer closure timeline lays out every step from the 2016 sale to the final shutdown. For the reasons behind it, read how debt and failed sales led to the shutdown.
Medical records: the deadline that matters most
This is the one piece of Crozer news that can cost you something if you ignore it. The county says Crozer Health records, other than imaging that ChristianaCare can access, will be destroyed after March 2, 2027. Requests go through Morgan Records Management, and a $3 million court-approved fund from The Foundation for Delaware County covers fees for up to 43,000 patients. Our guide explains how to request your Crozer records before the records deadline, and we break down what happens after March 2, 2027. If you get stuck, the county health department’s Wellness Line is 484-276-2100.
Where to get care while Crozer stays closed
For now, the emergency departments serving the old Crozer area are Riddle Hospital in Media, Mercy Fitzgerald in Darby and ChristianaCare’s Aston campus, plus hospitals in Philadelphia and Delaware. ChristianaCare also plans an outpatient center on the second floor of the Aston building this fall. If you live in Chester, our guide to where Chester residents go for hospital care now compares drive distances.
For a mental health crisis, call or text 988, or the county’s Crisis Connection Team at 855-889-7827. The county signed Belmont Behavioral Health in 2025 to run a 24/7 crisis center, but its location had not been set as of the county’s June update.
What the next Crozer update could bring
The next Crozer news worth checking for is the name of the health system that will run Crozer-Chester, followed by the address and opening date of the primary care practice. After that, we are watching where Main Line Health puts its outpatient emergency center, whether Taylor or Springfield signs a tenant before the year ends, ChristianaCare’s second neighborhood hospital (the county says Springfield is under consideration), and the start of demolition in Drexel Hill. Meanwhile, each one will get a dated line in the next Crozer update.

Crozer update FAQ
Is Crozer-Chester Medical Center reopening?
Partly, and not soon. The owners plan primary care first, likely in early 2027, and a smaller hospital of roughly 80 to 100 beds over two to three years. So far, nobody has announced an operator or an ER decision.
Who owns Crozer-Chester now?
Chariot Equities and Allaire Health Services, which bought the Upland campus for $10 million in January 2026. Taylor and Springfield belong to the Strine-led KQT Aikens Partners groups.
Is there an ER at any former Crozer hospital today?
No. None of the four former Crozer hospitals has a working emergency department as of October 16, 2026. The closest new option for many residents is ChristianaCare’s 24/7 ER in Aston.
How do I get my Crozer medical records?
Request them through Morgan Records Management before March 2, 2027. A court-approved fund covers request fees for up to 43,000 patients.
