Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital closed in 2025. This is an independent guide, not affiliated with Crozer Health, Prospect Medical or any hospital.
Medical training · Crozer residency programs
Crozer-Chester trained doctors for decades. Then, when it closed in May 2025, dozens of residents and fellows had to finish their training somewhere else. This guide to the Crozer residency programs shows where each one went, based on reporting by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Becker's and the health systems themselves.
01 — By program
→ Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital
Unlike most programs, the whole program moved and became a new Penn program, and its accreditation moved with it. In total, 26 residents and 9 incoming interns moved, and Penn hired the 12 faculty. Meanwhile, outpatient training continues at the Springfield and Upper Darby family health centers, which ChesPenn now runs.
→ Main Line Health (Bryn Mawr Hospital)
Similarly, Main Line Health took the full program, including 13 residents and 4 incoming.
→ Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital
Three fellows also moved along with the family medicine program.
→ Penn Medicine and Main Line Health
In contrast, ten residents went to Penn (the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Hospital) and ten to Main Line Health. However, the program itself didn't move.
→ Jefferson Health
Meanwhile, ten trainees went to Jefferson. However, some received waivers and didn't have to transfer.
→ Penn, Main Line Health and others
Similarly, four OB/GYN residents went to Penn and one to Main Line Health. Also, two transitional-year residents moved to other systems.
02 — Other programs
General surgery wasn't part of the 2025 closure. Instead, the ACGME withdrew its accreditation in January 2024, and Crozer lost its final appeal on June 26, 2024, when three residents remained.
Likewise, Crozer's own site already listed the pediatrics program as closed.
In addition to the Penn and Main Line Health placements above, Jefferson took about 20 Crozer trainees in total. Similarly, Temple took 5, ChristianaCare 2 and Trinity Health 1.
We couldn't find public reporting on podiatry, pharmacy residency, the geriatrics fellowship run with Temple, or the complex health and social needs fellowship. So if you were in one of these programs and know a source, please contact us and we'll add it.
