The Crozer sale is done, but the hospital has not come back. Chariot Allaire Partners, a pairing of New York real estate firm Chariot Equities and New Jersey nursing home operator Allaire Health Services, paid $10 million for the closed Crozer-Chester Medical Center and closed the purchase on January 21, 2026. The owners say they want a smaller hospital with an emergency department on the Upland campus. As of mid-October 2026, the owners have not announced a health system to run it, and no services have reopened.
Meanwhile, the rest of the old Crozer system went to other buyers. This page lays out who bought each property, what they paid, what they have promised and where things stand. For the newest developments, check our latest Crozer update, which we revise every month.
Who bought Crozer hospital? The short answer
No single company bought Crozer Health. Instead, Prospect Medical Holdings, the California company that owned the system, sold it off property by property during its bankruptcy. Here is where each piece of the Crozer sale ended up.
| Property | Buyer | Price | Closed | Status, October 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Upland | Chariot Allaire Partners (Chariot Equities and Allaire Health Services) | $10 million | Jan. 21, 2026 | Closed. Owner is looking for a health system to operate it. |
| Springfield Hospital | KQT Aikens Partners 2 (local investors led by Todd Strine) | $1 million | Mar. 10, 2026 | Closed. Deed requires 24/7 emergency services. |
| Taylor Hospital, Ridley Park | KQT Aikens Partners | $1 million | Sept. 2025 | Closed. Owners hope to restore medical services. |
| Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Drexel Hill | Upper Darby School District | $600,000 | Aug. 2025 | Being turned into a school campus. |
| Five outpatient sites in Glen Mills, Havertown, Broomall and Media | ChristianaCare | $50.3 million (winning bid) | 2025 | Taken over by ChristianaCare. |
The outpatient addresses come from ChristianaCare’s announcement of its winning bid: 300 and 500 Evergreen Drive in Glen Mills, 2010 West Chester Pike in Havertown, 30 Lawrence Road in Broomall and 200 E. State Street in Media. The Drexel Hill story has its own page: what happened to Delaware County Memorial Hospital.
How the Crozer sale came together
Prospect bought Crozer in 2016, and the search for a way out started years before the closure. ChristianaCare backed out of talks to acquire the system in 2022. In August 2024, New Jersey real estate firm CHA Partners signed a nonbinding letter of intent to buy all four hospitals and return them to nonprofit status, but that deal fell apart by late October, WHYY reported. Crozer-Chester stopped operating in spring 2025, in the middle of Prospect’s bankruptcy; we explain why the hospital closed in a separate guide. Our Crozer closure timeline walks through those months in order.
The hospital buildings went to a bankruptcy auction in October 2025. Chariot Allaire Partners bid $10 million for the Crozer-Chester campus, about 65 acres with a dozen buildings. Restorative Health Foundation and Syan Investments bid $3 million for Springfield Hospital, according to DELCO Today, citing the Philadelphia Business Journal. Two strings were attached. The tax assessments on both properties had to be cut to match the sale prices, and if the sales failed, Prospect had court approval to abandon the buildings, which would have left local taxing bodies to foreclose.
Chariot closed on Crozer-Chester in January. However, the Springfield buyers did not. Prospect told the court that month it had given up on that deal, and the backup bidder, Todd Strine’s group, bought Springfield for $1 million on March 10, 2026, the Inquirer reported.
Who owns Crozer-Chester Medical Center now?
Chariot Equities is a newly formed company. Its founder and principal, Yoel Polack, previously worked in health care real estate in the New York City area. His partner, Allaire Health Services, is a for-profit nursing home operator based in Jackson, New Jersey. Federal records list Allaire’s chief executive, Benjamin Kurland, as an owner of 20 nursing homes, three of them in the Philadelphia area, while Chariot says Allaire has 29 facilities in five states, according to the Inquirer’s report on the closing.
The group’s chief health care adviser is Dr. Arthur Klein, a former president of Mount Sinai Health Network. However, neither Chariot nor Allaire runs hospitals, so the whole plan depends on bringing in a health system to operate one.
In other words, what they bought is mostly empty space. The 64-acre campus sits on the line between Chester and Upland Township, and Chester Mayor Stefan Root has said there are no beds, equipment or computers left inside. If you want the background on the buildings themselves, see our Crozer-Chester Medical Center guide.
What the new owners plan for the campus
At the January closing, Polack said he expected to reach an agreement within six months with a health system to run a “right-sized” hospital and emergency department, and to open a first phase within two years.
Later, the plan got more detail at a town hall at Widener University on April 14, 2026, attended by about 200 people. WHYY’s account of the meeting lists the main points:
- The inpatient hospital would be about a tenth of the size of the current building, which Polack put at 750,000 to 1 million square feet.
- The campus would reopen in phases, starting with the main campus and adding services on the west campus later. A behavioral health facility could return.
- The owners were in talks with two, possibly three, academic medical centers, with a 60- to 90-day study period.
- The Independence Blue Cross Foundation committed money for a primary care practice on the campus, with a goal of opening within nine months, staffed by advanced practice nurses.
- Polack called full restoration an “aspirational” goal that could take up to three years.
Still, State Sen. Tim Kearney raised a $250 million price tag at the meeting and asked how the project would be paid for. NBC10 reported that the owners hoped to name an operator by November.
Then, in June, an unnamed Philadelphia-area health system was doing due diligence on taking the lead role, DELCO Today reported, citing the Philadelphia Business Journal. The working plan was about 80 inpatient beds, compared with 424 staffed beds before the closure. Penn Medicine’s CEO declined to say whether Penn was involved, and ChristianaCare said it was not in active talks. In addition, Chariot was talking with Neumann University, Widener University and ChesPenn Health Services about primary care.

Will there be an emergency room again?
Klein told the April meeting that an emergency room is “absolutely part of the plan,” but so far no one has put a date on it. State lawmakers and property owners have also asked Main Line Health about emergency care at the former Crozer hospitals. Its CEO, Ed Jimenez, said in January that Main Line would consider reopening one emergency department, but only through a partnership and on a break-even basis, and he estimated $15 million to $20 million just to make Taylor’s emergency department usable again.
For now, there is no emergency care on any former Crozer campus. In an emergency, call 911. Our guide to open hospitals and ERs in Delaware County lists the nearest options, and Chester residents can see where Chester patients go now.
Springfield and Taylor: the other half of the Crozer sale
Todd Strine, majority owner of Keystone Quality Transport, leads the investor group that now owns both Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park and Springfield Hospital, each bought for $1 million. Our guide to who bought Taylor Hospital covers that deal and the Ridley Park plans in detail. In addition, Springfield’s deed requires the property to provide 24/7 emergency services. Strine told the Inquirer that the restriction stays for now but could be revisited, and that he hopes to restore medical services at both hospitals. Springfield Township and Ridley Park each agreed to assess the properties at the sale price for a limited time. More on the Ridley Park site is in our Taylor Hospital guide.
What the sale means for former Crozer patients
The Crozer sale covered buildings and land. However, they did not take over patient records. Requests for Crozer records go through Morgan Records Management, and the court-approved plan allows the records to be destroyed after March 2, 2027. Our step-by-step Crozer records guide explains how to request yours, and this breakdown of the March 2027 deadline covers who should move first.
Crozer sale update: what to watch next
Three things will tell you whether the Crozer-Chester plan is real. First is a named operator, which the owners said they hoped to announce by November. Second is the primary care practice, which would be the first patient care on the campus since 2025. Finally, the third is money: who pays for renovations and whether state funding follows. We track each of these in the monthly Crozer news page, and the 2024 and 2025 fires at Crozer-Chester explain some of the building damage any operator will inherit. We track each of those in our Crozer-Chester reopening plan and timeline, updated after the October 2026 town hall.
